IN FRANCO TIMES, SHE WAS IN JAIL BECAUSE SHE WAS GAY. NOW SHE CAN ENTER PARLIAMENT

Dear people from the Guardian, the BBC, Queerty and beyond,

I am going to tell you what may seem at first too much related to where I live but that you will soon realise that it is related to a lot of people around the planet.

Some decades ago there was in Barcelona a singer of old songs. He used to play in different theatres around the city.
One day this singer was put in prison ten months because he was considered a "lazy an a wrongdoer man" (vago y malenante in Spanish) He was not a lazy man or a wrongdoer but in Franco times people who were gay were considered "vagos y maleantes" and were put to prison. Their only crime was to be gay.

This man, who had been put to prison, when democracy came to its land decided to make some changes and he changed his name to CARMEN DE MAIRENA. And his looks changed to that of a woman. A woman in excess some may say.

CARMEN DE MAIRENA even entered the porn industry and also was a regular of tv programs.

Some weeks ago, CARMEN DE MAIRENA, almost 80 years old, decided to enter the Catalan Parliament. And in November 28th we will know if she enters or not.

As you may imagine a person who was born in Barcelona when in Spain had a republic in 1933, and who had suffered prison for being gay in Franco times you may imagine that a lot of people in Catalonia would vote for this person. But this may not be so.

Contrary to what one could expect, the possiblity of Carmen de Mairena enetering politics just bring laugh to a lot of people in Catalonia.

CARMEN DE MAIRENA is quite famous because she has a lot of easiness to produce very hot phrases. She likes to talk about sex. And she talks about sex with a body in excess and a very manly voice. She is what some may say a freaky person. Freaky among freaks!

I must accept that this woman in a Parliament may make the Catalan parliament look like a circus because she is not serious. So, some people may vote at her because they want to laugh at politics. It is obvious that CARMEN DE MAIRENA in Parlaiament is not going to say anything serious. She may say things like "Hey, man , how handsome you look as you talk. When we finish this session if you want come to my house!" What I mean is that it is true that Parliament may look a bit like a circus with her. But just to imagine the faces of those who love the visits of the Pope to Barcelona seem to me worth of her being there.

I'm sure that Carmen de Mairena would love to be in Parliament (and she would have a good wage and she deserves it!). And I think that her presence in Parliament, with all the circus she would create, does not put a bad name in the Catalan Parliament. IT IS A WAY TO TELL ALL THE PARLIAMENTS OF THE WORLD THAT IN CATALONIA THERE WAS ONCE A TIME WERE GAY PEOPLE WERE IN PRISON BECAUSE THEY WERE JUST GAY. AND NOW THESE PEOPLE TAKE REVENGE. AND TAKE REVENGE NOT BY PUTTING IN PRISON ANYONE BUT JUST BY LAUGHING AT  PREJUDICES!

Well, I am explaining all this in English because I am afraid that CARMEN DE MAIRENA won't get enough votes to enter the Catalan Parliament. People in Catalonia see her just as a very freaky person (and she is indeed!) but they do not realize that she lived most of her life under a fascist regime who even put her in prison for being gay! So, I ask to all the lgbt commununity around the world and to all the press concerned to human rights that talk about CARMEN DE MAIRENA. If people in Catalonia realize that the presence of a 80 old gay victim of Franco in its Parliament is a HOMAGE TO FREEDOM then they may vote for her. Unfortunately they only may see her as a freaky.

Anyway, I think that the best way that CATALONIA could express his rejection to the totalitarian regime of Franco would be to have a victim of Franco in its parliament. WITHOUT PREJUDICES.
