501 THE LIFE OF JULIAN ASSANGE

Picture of Julian Assange during a talk at 26C3Julian Assange
Today Julian Assange is not a free man. He is kept in custody.
I have no doubt that this is happening to him because he is the one behind Wikileaks.
So now that he is detained I wonder if he finds it is OK the way he has handled his affairs. I just wonder if he misses to have chosen another kind of life. Maybe he just could have chosen an easier life in Australia. With just a normal job and having a normal life.
Instead he seems to have chosen a quite different. He is famous around the globe and the books of history will talk about him in years and centuries to come (if there is not a nuclear war at some point ...)

I imagine myself given the option to remain one more from the crowd of being Julian Assange. Being Julian Assange it is obvoius that I would be famous but I would be also in custody and maybe in prison in the near future.

Some decades ago Nelson Mandela stayed in prison for years. He was fighting Apartheid. Now, maybe Assange will be in prison. But for what? For transparency?

We are used to people that go to prison because they steal, they murder. But why should Julian be in prison. I am talking about him being behind Wikileaks. The rape accusation is obvious for me that is a US plot (after all the things we have known from Wikileaks about the US way of acting it is obvious they can plot this and much more)

This night Julian Assange's name will be written around the globe newspapers. But the person behind this name will be in custody. While most of us can just go to the street of our city or just to the kitchen to drink some coffee or tea Julian Assange cannot do that.

So, he must be very sure about what he is doing because now he is paying a high price. Meanwhile the rest of the planet, not so involved remains free. Is not that a bit frightening? At some moments I have images of medieval Europe when the kings and knights prosecuted anyone who was a nuisance for them. Now we have exactly the same but dresses in modernity.
